In the current political and social climate, I find it interesting to see how big brands respond to it. Coming out of a divisive election, I really appreciated the commercial Starbucks created—reminding us that there’s a lot of good happening out there. And that together as a community a cup of coffee actually added up to a lot of good. This skinny vanilla latte with soy milk obsessed Starbucks drinker continues to be a brand fan.

When I was a kid I wanted to be Wonder Woman, a Charlie’s Angel or Magnum PI when I grew up. Basically I wanted to fight crime, look AMAZING and drive a Ferrari. ALL those shows still hold a special place in my heart, but I’ve changed....and with it my taste in crime fighting shows. Enter Jessica Jones.....It’s dark and gritty and completely different than the shinny plastic superhero/PI shows of my childhood. Jessica Jones is a wonderfully flawed reluctant superhero who drinks too much and almost never smiles. Krysten Ritter (who I’ve been a fan of since Veronica Mars days) delivers an amazing performance that makes you care about this complex, cynical and damaged antihero. WATCH and be obsessed too!

WHY am I so obsessed with Instagram? Well... (thanks for asking) ...because it opens up SO MANY new obsessions for me!! Take for example Fat Jew's IG account I’m beyond obsessed with. I’ve listened to the Moth Radio Hour for years, but this was the first time I ever attended a live event. The storytellers allow themselves to be truly honest and vulnerable, so seeing it live was even more impactful and moving. If you live in LA you may have seen me in traffic or running on the strand laughing hysterically or crying—NOT because I’m bat-shit crazy, but because I’m listening to the Moth! But seriously, the storytellers are so honest and real that it’s hard not to be moved by emotion. Through their stories I get to see life from a different perspective and take away an insight or lesson. I’m obsessed with the Moth because it celebrates the art of storytelling and human experiences that connect us.

My obsession this week is a Samsung TVC done by R/GA. I thought their use of the “human kaleidoscope” choreography was such a cleaver and unique way to humanize this technological device. I’m a die hard apple brand fan, but a commercial like this makes me stop and obsess over a smart watch I didn’t know I needed!
On a side note, this kind of choreography has a special place in my heart since I saw Daft Punk’s Around the World video in the 80s. Thank you R/GA for giving me something work to obsess about and reminding me how awesome 80s music videos were!

Traveling to Cuba was a life-changing trip in so many ways. I honestly could fill an entire blog about my adventures there, so I though I’d start with the cars. I traveled under a “People to People” visa with Friendly Planet and would highly recommend it to anyone who really wants to learn about the people, their lives, their history and truly experience Cuba (as it is now).
The people of Cuba are lovely, extremely kind, and are VERY PROUD that they make the most with what they have. The embargo started in 1960 and essentially isolated the island’s economy and with it, their cars. In many ways the cars represent WHO the Cuban people are; a country of MacGyvers proud that they do so much with so little. In their cars you see that they create something beautiful and functional from what we’ve long ago junked. I will be FOREVER be obsessed with Cuba and it’s people, my only hope is that they don’t change too much as more Americans travel there.

Mondays have a bad rap. To be honest I kind of feel bad for them. I wonder if Mondays really want to be a Friday or at least get a cool nickname like Wednesday (what day wouldn't want to be "hump day")? That's why it makes me happy that Axe Body Spray made this TVC about Mondays.
This was done back in 2014, and I LOVE to watch it when I'm not "feeling" my Monday.
I'm obsessed with this TVC on so many levels! It's shot, produced and edited so well to perfectly pulsating music. But the script....the script is BRILLIANT:

If you ever wondered what life-changing Ramen or life-chaninging Sushi looks like.....well this is it! For the Ramen, you'll just have to visit Niseko Japan. In fact, our days actually revolved around Ramen...."do we eat ramen and then snowboard" OR "do we snowboard and then eat ramen". Yep life is good when you're on a ski holiday in Japan! For life-changing Sushi you'll have to stop by Sushi Takamitsu in Tokyo. It's a very small place that only serves sushi omakase—it's a true art to watch them make our meal and I never wanted it to end! Both are worth a trip to Japan!
